Sinus lifting is a bone augmentation procedure in the area of the chewing teeth. According to statistics, in 2/3 of cases, their own bone tissue is not enough, which is associated with the anatomical structure of the jaw or with thinning of bone tissue after tooth extraction.
After tooth extraction, it is necessary to place an implant within 2-3 months, otherwise the bone tissue will begin to decrease and it will become insufficient for the implantation. In such cases, sinus lifting is the only way out.

Sinus lifting operation at ESTOMATOLOGY
Sinus lifting (osteoplasty) in dentistry is carried out before the installation of implants. In order to understand whether there is enough bone tissue, computed tomography is required.
If it is not enough, then a sinus lift operation is performed – a soft incision in the gum, then the bone is drilled to the bottom of the maxillary sinus. After that, the mucous membrane is lifted and a special material for bone growth is engrafted.
The operation is rather complicated, but in our clinic the sinus-lifting is done by experienced dentists. The operation takes up to 2 hours under local anesthesia.
Sinus lift closed
Closed sinus lift means no incision is made. The bone is at least 7 mm high and a special material is inserted through a small hole for the implant. The operation takes up to an hour.
Sinus lift open
Open sinus lift is done if the bone is not higher than 7 mm. At the same time, the gum is cut and a hole is drilled to the maxillary sinus. Artificial bone tissue is introduced through the lateral opening and then closed with a membrane. The operation takes up to 2 hours.
The implant can be placed only after the bone tissue has reached the required volume.
Bone tissue for augmentation can be:
- the patient’s own bone;
- artificial bone, which is created individually in a laboratory for a patient;
- donor bone;
- animal bone.
